Could These Common Causes Be the Root of Your Back Pain?
Most people will experience some sort of back pain in their life. While most people believe there’s nothing you can do about it, the reality is you can control the pain more than you think. Lower left back pain originates from a few root causes. Once you read through these common causes, you may realize the actions you least expect to cause back pain are actually the problems.
Improper Lifting Technique
Lifting technique is especially critical if you have to lift heavy objects frequently throughout the day. Even if you only have to lift occasionally, proper technique is critical. If you use your back to do most of the lifting, you are putting it at risk for injury. Instead, use your legs and tighten your abs as much as possible. If you can, keep the object close to your body to put less stress on your back.
Sitting Too Much
In today’s world, many people have desk jobs, which cause damage to the discs in your back thanks to constantly sitting all day long. The discs need movement to be as healthy as possible so many employers offer employee wellness programs to get them moving throughout the day. Take advantage of breaks and go on brief walks to get your blood flowing and give your discs some relief.
Not Stretching or Exercising Enough
Even something as simple as playing golf or raking leaves can cause lower left back pain. If you don’t stretch your back or exercise frequently, sudden movements can hurt your back. You may not realize it at the time but going through these odd movements take a toll on your back to the point where it can potentially cause permanent damage.
Overuse of Your Back
Depending on your job, you may simply be overusing your back. It’s important to take breaks and stretch your back and hamstrings throughout the day if you do a lot of heavy lifting. If that’s not possible, be sure to at least give your back a break on the weekends. You’ll be surprised how much relief you’ll have from your lower left back pain just by taking a break.
